About
Nobuyuki Yamasaki is a pioneering researcher whose work spans robotics, real-time computing architectures, and human-robot interaction. Over two decades, he has made foundational contributions to the design of distributed real-time systems, developing a suite of specialized processor architectures — most notably the Responsive Processor (RP), the Responsive MultiThreaded (RMT) Processor, and the Dependable Responsive MultiThreaded Processor (D-RMTP) — engineered to meet the demanding computational requirements of humanoid robots and ubiquitous computing environments. His hardware innovations extend to the Responsive Link, a dedicated real-time communication protocol enabling reliable distributed control across sensor-actuator networks and robotic systems. Equally significant is Yamasaki's work in human-robot interaction, where he explored personal robot interfaces, multi-agent cooperative architectures, and the HuRIS interactive system, addressing how robots can meaningfully support human communication and collaborative work. His reconfigurable modular humanoid robot architecture further demonstrated his holistic approach — bridging mechanical design, layered software models, and real-time communication. With his most-cited works each garnering 23–31 citations, his research has provided essential building blocks for researchers tackling intelligent robotics and embedded real-time systems. Students entering these fields will find Yamasaki's body of work an invaluable foundation for understanding tightly integrated hardware-software solutions in autonomous and humanoid robotics.
