About

Mohd Farid Alias is a robotics researcher whose work bridges human-robot interaction and assistive technology. His early contributions center on the development of Amir-II, a humanoid robot head designed for intuitive human-robot collaboration. In his 2011 paper, he introduced a visual tracking and servoing system that enables the robot to detect and follow a human face in real-time, a foundational step toward more responsive social robots. To make this system accessible, he also developed a dedicated graphical user interface (GUI) in 2010, allowing operators to monitor the robot’s vision and actuator positioning through MATLAB. More recently, Alias has ventured into biomedical robotics, tackling the challenge of active lower-limb prosthetics. His 2018 work on gait intent classification uses mechanomyography—muscle vibration signals—to predict walking mode in transtibial amputees, achieving subject-independent data pooling to improve prosthetic responsiveness without relying on movement feedback. Though his citation counts are modest, his research demonstrates a clear trajectory from humanoid interaction to practical rehabilitation engineering, laying groundwork for more intuitive and adaptive robotic systems.
