M. Renier is a leading figure in macromolecular crystallography, whose work has fundamentally streamlined the way synchrotron beamlines operate. His primary research focuses on the automation of sample handling and the development of high-throughput instrumentation for structural biology. Renier’s most significant contribution is the creation of the SPINE standard sample holder, a universal mount for cryocooled crystals.
