About
Jimmy Li is a robotics researcher whose work spans marine robotics, multi-robot systems, computer vision, and autonomous environmental monitoring. He is perhaps best known for his foundational contribution to heterogeneous multi-robot systems for ocean science, captured in his highly cited 2012 paper on multi-domain marine monitoring (134 citations), which demonstrated how aerial, surface, and underwater robots could collaborate to assist scientists in inspecting complex marine ecosystems. Building on this foundation, Li has made significant contributions to autonomous coral reef health assessment, developing systems that combine small marine robots with image analysis techniques — including radial basis function SVMs — to evaluate reef ecosystems using natural lighting.
