About

Hongzhong Liu is a leading researcher in soft robotics and bioinspired actuation, with a focus on developing untethered, programmable soft actuators that overcome critical limitations in mobility and output force. His major contributions include pioneering liquid–vapor phase transition actuators that achieve 160% stroke and 14.5 N output force, enabling remote and programmable control without external tethering. He has also advanced photomechanical nanocomposites using graphene and near-infrared-responsive materials, as well as shape memory alloy (SMA)-based actuators with dual electrical and photoresponsive deformations.
