Chiyul Yoon is a leading figure in surgical robotics, with a career dedicated to enhancing the precision and safety of robot-assisted medical procedures. His research focuses on the critical intersection of haptic feedback, actuator design, and autonomous systems for minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Yoon’s most influential work addresses a fundamental limitation of robotic MIS: the non-uniform gripping force caused by mechanical strings. His 2014 paper on a grip force model for the da Vinci end-effector, which has garnered 28 citations, introduced a novel compensation force prediction method, significantly improving tool control and tissue handling.
