Bradley E. Kratochvil is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work spans microrobotics, wireless actuation, and distributed robotic systems. He is best known for developing the MagMite, a groundbreaking untethered submillimeter microrobot that addresses the fundamental challenges of power supply, propulsion, and control at the microscale. His invention of the Wireless Resonant Magnetic Micro-actuator (WRMMA) — which harvests magnetic energy from the environment to power and drive miniature robots — has become a foundational contribution to the field of microrobotics, earning over 200 citations for his seminal 2009 paper alone and more than 126 for his closely related 2008 work. Kratochvil has further advanced microrobotic capabilities by demonstrating operation in both dry and wet environments, broadening potential biomedical and manufacturing applications.
