Astrid Schnetzer is a biological oceanographer whose research bridges marine microbial ecology and autonomous observation technology. Her work focuses on understanding the structure and function of planktonic communities, particularly how environmental stressors like pollution and climate change impact microbial food webs in coastal waters. Schnetzer is perhaps best known for her leadership in the USC CINAPS (Center for Integrated Networked Aquatic PlatformS) project, which developed and deployed autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and networked sensor systems to monitor the Southern California Bight.
