About

Yida Lin is a materials scientist whose research lies at the intersection of two-dimensional layered materials, stimuli-responsive structures, and advanced micro/nanofabrication. His work centers on engineering self-folding architectures using graphene and other 2D materials, enabling the creation of 3D structures that respond dynamically to environmental cues such as solvents and light. Lin’s most cited paper, “Solvent Responsive Self‐Folding of 3D Photosensitive Graphene Architectures” (2020), has garnered 20 citations and demonstrates a novel approach to integrating photosensitivity into flexible graphene constructs. This work, developed in collaboration with leading researchers including David Gracias and Zhao Qin, has significant implications for flexible electronics, wearable biosensors, and reconfigurable photonics. A subsequent 2023 publication extends this concept to transparent, flexible graphene photodetector microstructures, highlighting Lin’s continued impact in the field. By combining principles of mechanics, materials chemistry, and photonics, Lin has contributed foundational methods for highly parallel assembly and reversible reconfiguration of 3D microdevices—advancing the practical realization of adaptive, bio-inspired electronics and smart materials.
