About

Weining Lu is a leading researcher in the fields of continuum robotics, space robotics, and multi-robot systems. His work addresses critical challenges in robot manipulation and autonomous navigation within constrained and unknown environments. A major contribution is his development of a novel 3D static modeling method for continuum robots based on pseudo-rigid body theory, which has become essential for the precise planning and control of these flexible, snake-like machines in narrow spaces (33 citations). Lu has also made significant advances in vibration suppression control for free-floating space robots, enabling more stable autonomous target capture during orbital operations. His research extends to swarm robotics, where he has pioneered formation control and coordinated navigation strategies for multi-robot systems operating without global maps. Most recently, he has introduced innovative approaches using geometric graph neural networks for collaborative navigation, as demonstrated in his 2025 works "Nav-SCOPE" and "Collaborative Navigation of Multiple Autonomous Mobile Robots." Through his diverse contributions, Lu continues to push the boundaries of robot autonomy in complex, real-world settings.
