About

Mehmet Ege Cansev is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of human-robot interaction, haptics, and affective computing. His work centers on making robots not just functional, but emotionally perceptive and physically intuitive partners for humans. Cansev’s major contributions lie in developing wearable and robotic systems that can mediate and render affective touch—a critical but often overlooked channel for building trust and embodiment in assistive and social robots. His highly cited 2021 review on interactive human-robot skill transfer (9 citations) provides a foundational framework for generalizing robot learning through user feedback and demonstration. He has also designed innovative haptic devices, including a wearable linear actuator matrix for affective touch and a low-budget sensor glove for trajectory learning, demonstrating a commitment to accessible, high-impact engineering. With multiple papers exploring the neurophysiological and psychological design criteria for affective touch in assistive robots, Cansev is shaping how robots can “feel” and respond to human emotion through touch. His recent work on pneumatic unit cell actuators for rendering stroke stimuli (2025) continues to push the boundaries of realistic, emotionally resonant haptic feedback.
