About
Driven by a vision of seamlessly integrating electronics into everyday textiles, Junli Chen’s research pioneers the development of advanced wearable sensors and energy harvesters. Their work masterfully combines materials science with textile engineering to create intelligent fabrics that can monitor human motion and interact with machines. A standout contribution is the creation of a flexible hierarchical helical yarn, which functions as a self-powered sensor for motion signal monitoring and human-machine interaction. This innovation, detailed in their highly cited 2020 paper (39 citations), demonstrates a remarkable ability to harvest mechanical energy across a broad strain range. More recently, Chen engineered a highly sensitive MXene-based pressure sensor, integrating it into a nanofiber film and spacer fabric architecture. This sensor not only achieves ultrahigh sensitivity for precise signal transmission but also incorporates a Joule heating effect, adding a layer of functionality for thermal management. With these contributions, Junli Chen is at the forefront of developing durable, stable, and multifunctional electronic textiles, paving the way for next-generation smart clothing and human-centric interactive systems.
