About
Driven by a vision of painless, minimally invasive diagnostics, Guanxi Liu is pioneering the frontier of medical capsule robotics. His research centers on the design, dynamic modeling, and magnetic actuation of next-generation capsule endoscopes, specifically targeting the challenges of navigating the unstructured, expansive environments of the stomach and colon. Liu’s major contribution lies in the conception and development of a novel dual-spin spherical capsule robot (DSCR). As detailed in his highly cited 2021 work, he proposed a sophisticated system driven solely by pure magnetic torque from a universal rotating magnetic field (URMF), coupled with rigorous posture dynamic modeling and stability analysis to ensure reliable locomotion. His most impactful paper, “Design and implementation of a highly integrated dual hemisphere capsule robot” (2022, 9 citations), further advances this concept toward a practical, highly integrated prototype. By tackling the fundamental physics of magnetic torque coupling and viscoelastic tissue interaction, Liu’s work provides a critical theoretical and engineering foundation for active, controllable capsule robots, promising to transform gastrointestinal intervention from a passive imaging tool into an active therapeutic platform.
