About

Zongkun Pei is a rising roboticist whose work centers on human-robot interaction, continuum robots, and intelligent surgical systems. His research addresses critical challenges in teleoperation and flexible robotics, particularly for medical applications. In his 2024 study on teleoperation control strategies, Pei developed a multi-scenario human-robot interaction framework that enhances operator precision and safety, earning 5 citations. He also pioneered a novel cable-driven planar parallel continuum robot, introducing a compact drive unit with miniature linear actuators and a compound kinematic calibration method that significantly improves motion accuracy. This work, also with 5 citations, advances the design of flexible robots for constrained environments. Pei’s contributions extend to surgical robotics, where he created a flexible endoscopic robot capable of autonomous visual field tracking using machine vision and deep learning, maintaining a stable view under remote center motion constraints. His correction to the teleoperation study further refines the control strategy. With growing recognition, Pei’s innovations in continuum robot design and autonomous control are shaping the future of minimally invasive surgery and human-robot collaboration.
