About
Yuhong Liu is a pioneering researcher in biomimetic underwater robotics, with a focus on bio-inspired propulsion systems and fluid–structure interaction (FSI) dynamics. Their most notable contribution is the design, modeling, and experimental validation of a biomimetic robotic sea lion foreflipper, inspired by the California sea lion’s efficient forelimb-driven swimming. This work, published in 2022 and garnering 19 citations, represents a significant advance in understanding and replicating the unique propulsion mechanisms of Otariidae—the only marine mammals that use foreflippers for locomotion. Liu has also made important strides in semantic SLAM for mobile robots, developing methods for static semantic map construction using instance segmentation and dynamic point elimination (7 citations), enhancing robots’ environmental understanding for high-level human–computer interaction.
