About

Yuezhe Zhang is a robotics researcher whose work spans experimental mobile robotics and advanced task-and-motion planning. In the mid-2000s, Zhang co-developed the Dynamo project, an extensive facility for real-time experiments with multiple mobile robots, featuring nine radio-controlled robots, CCD cameras, and Datacube image processing hardware. This foundational work, published in 2005 with 29 citations, established a testbed for cooperative and competitive multi-robot behavior. More recently, Zhang has pushed the frontier of reactive planning with the 2024 paper "Multi-Modal MPPI and Active Inference for Reactive Task and Motion Planning" (10 citations), which combines Model Predictive Path Integral control with Active Inference to enable robots to robustly handle runtime uncertainties and disturbances during complex manipulation tasks. This work addresses a critical gap in TAMP—execution robustness—by allowing plans to adapt in real time. Zhang's contributions bridge classical experimental robotics with cutting-edge planning theory, demonstrating a career-long commitment to making robots more capable and resilient in dynamic, uncertain environments.
