You-Liang Zhu is a rising leader in the field of bioinspired soft materials, with a focus on developing advanced hydrogels and polymer frameworks for artificial tissues and bionic robotics. His major contributions center on creating multifunctional materials that mimic the complex properties of biological skin and neuromuscular systems. In a landmark 2023 study (81 citations), Zhu introduced an *in situ* grown silver–polymer framework with coordination complexes, achieving unprecedented self-sensing actuation for artificial tissues—a breakthrough that integrates proprioception and exteroception in a single material.
