About
Yefeng Sun is a leading researcher in agricultural robotics and autonomous navigation, specializing in precise localization and mapping for complex, GPS-denied environments. His work directly tackles the critical challenge of enabling mobile robots to operate with centimeter-level accuracy in greenhouses, plant factories, and orchards. Sun’s most impactful contribution is the development of **preciseSLAM**, a tightly-coupled LiDAR-inertial-ultrasonic SLAM system that achieves positioning accuracy within 5 cm for ridge-raising operations in plant factories—a pending industry problem. This work has already garnered 74 citations since 2024. He has also advanced visual positioning through fiducial marker reprojection methods for semi-structured greenhouses and developed drivable road detection using pixel-level segmentation with contextual representation augmentation.
