Yasuhiro Yamamoto is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally shaped the field of humanoid robotics and tactile sensing. His research focuses on developing anthropomorphic machines that can interact safely and intuitively with humans, bridging the gap between mechanical engineering and human physiology. Yamamoto’s most influential contribution is the creation of the WABIAN (Waseda Bipedal humANoid) and Hadaly-2 series at Waseda University, which established foundational principles for humanoid locomotion and human-robot interaction. His seminal 2002 paper on these platforms has garnered over 110 citations, serving as a cornerstone reference for researchers worldwide. More recently, Yamamoto has advanced tactile sensing technology, developing an all-in-type optical three-axis tactile sensor that eliminates the need for external devices like CCD cameras and addresses the insensible zone problem.
