About

Xue Chen is pioneering the future of soft, intelligent electronics for health monitoring and human–machine interfaces. Their research centers on developing deformable, self-healing materials and transformative devices that can adapt to the body and environment. A standout contribution is the creation of self-healing, reconfigurable electronics for health monitoring (115 citations), which overcomes the critical limitation of thermal-switching adaptability in wearable diagnostics. Chen also introduced ultraelastic yarns using curcumin-assisted electroless deposition (77 citations), enabling highly conductive, stretchable strain sensors for textile-based interfaces. Further innovations include superhydrophobic, stretchable kirigami paper devices and microstructure-reconfigured graphene oxide aerogel metamaterials for ultrarobust directional sensing. By harnessing multimode elastic instabilities in soft gel structures, Chen has achieved programmable, reversible shape morphing for soft robotics. With a growing citation impact and a portfolio of work that bridges materials science, electronics, and biomechanics, Xue Chen is shaping the next generation of adaptive, wearable technologies that seamlessly integrate with the human body.
