About

Xingcan Huang is pioneering the next generation of electronic skins (e-skins) that bridge the physical and digital worlds. His research focuses on creating intelligent, wearable interfaces for human-machine interaction, with key contributions in wireless haptics, non-contact 3D sensing, and neuromorphic tactile perception. Huang’s most cited work, “Electronic skin as wireless human-machine interfaces for robotic VR” (2022, 284 citations), introduced a transformative platform for teleoperating robots during the pandemic, enabling safe, remote control through soft electronics. He further advanced the field with a fully integrated breathable haptic textile (2024, 57 citations), solving the critical sweat-induced degradation in wearable haptics. His bio-inspired “Mormyroidea” e-skin (2024, 54 citations) achieved non-contact 3D tracking, a breakthrough for robotic perception. Most recently, his neuromorphic e-skin with active pain and injury perception (2025, 7 citations) equips humanoid robots with empathetic, self-protective sensing. With over 425 citations across his top papers, Huang’s work is redefining tactile interfaces for VR, robotics, and healthcare, earning him recognition as a leading innovator in soft electronics and intelligent systems.
