About
Wen Pan is a leading researcher in construction automation and robotics, with a primary focus on developing robotic systems for on-site building tasks. His most impactful work centers on cable-driven parallel robots (CDPRs) for the installation of curtain wall modules, a high-risk activity traditionally performed manually. In his highly cited 2022 paper (79 citations), Pan demonstrated that CDPRs can achieve sufficient accuracy for this task, challenging conventional methods. He has also made significant contributions to the economic analysis of single-task construction robots (STCRs), creating a cost–benefit analysis framework (43 citations) and a technology management system for their development (41 citations). Beyond facade installation, Pan has explored robot-assisted deconstruction for sustainability and process information modeling for construction management. His work on co-adaptation of robot systems for care assistance in an ageing society (23 citations) shows a broader interest in service robotics. With over 270 total citations, Pan’s research is bridging the gap between robotic prototypes and practical, economically viable construction applications, making him a key figure in the push toward automated construction sites.
