About
Vladimir Makarov is a leading researcher in autonomous mobile robotics for environmental monitoring, with a specialized focus on coastal zone surveillance and marine natural disaster forecasting. His work addresses the critical challenge of monitoring Russia’s extensive shelf territories, which hold half of the country’s gas reserves and are frequently battered by severe storms and intense sea waves. Makarov’s most impactful contribution is the development of an autonomous mobile robotic system (AMRS) capable of continuous coastal monitoring in extreme conditions, as detailed in his 2017 paper (22 citations). He pioneered a modular unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) design that can be fitted with wheeled, tracked, or rotary-screw movers, enabling operation across diverse terrains from sandy beaches to icy shores. His field research on drag-and-traction characteristics (2019) provided essential data for optimizing robot mobility in challenging coastal environments. Makarov’s work at NSTU n.a. R.E. Alekseev has established a technological foundation for predicting marine natural disasters and safeguarding offshore resource exploration, with his research group’s cumulative impact exceeding 50 citations. His innovations represent a vital step toward automated, resilient environmental monitoring systems for the world’s most demanding coastal zones.
