V. Kornilov is a leading figure in time-domain astrophysics, best known for founding and directing the MASTER Global Robotic Network—a pioneering system of fully automated optical telescopes designed for rapid sky surveys and real-time follow-up of transient events. His major contributions include the development of the MASTER-Net, which can scan the entire visible sky in a single night down to magnitude 19–20, enabling groundbreaking studies of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), gravitational-wave counterparts, and rare stellar explosions. Kornilov’s work has had a profound impact, with his most cited paper, “Master Robotic Net” (2010), accumulating over 200 citations, and his network’s results cited more than 350 times collectively. He achieved a historic milestone by performing the first optical follow-up of the gravitational-wave event GW150914, providing crucial early observations of its error region.
