A. Tlatov is a prominent astrophysicist whose research has centered on time-domain astronomy, gravitational-wave follow-up observations, gamma-ray bursts, and the development of robotic telescope infrastructure. As a key contributor to the MASTER (Mobile Astronomical System of Telescope-Robots) Global Robotic Net project, Tlatov has helped construct and expand one of the world's most capable automated sky survey networks, capable of imaging the entire sky nightly down to magnitude 19–20. Among Tlatov's most celebrated contributions is the MASTER network's role in capturing the first optical image of the gravitational-wave source GW170817 — the landmark neutron star merger detected by LIGO/Virgo — earning that work 227 citations.
