Songgu Wu is a rising leader in the field of organic crystalline smart materials, with a research focus on flexible molecular crystals, nonlinear optics (NLO), and mechano-responsive materials. Their major contribution lies in pioneering the development of flexible organic crystals that retain their mechanical and optical properties under extreme conditions. Notably, Wu’s 2024 work on low-temperature flexible chiral crystals with highly efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG) achieved 15 citations, marking the first report of such materials that combine flexibility with robust NLO performance at cryogenic temperatures—a breakthrough for soft optoelectronics and sensors.
