S. Torres-Flores is a leading figure in optical time-domain and multi-messenger astronomy, with a focus on the dynamic southern sky. Their core research centers on the design and execution of large-scale photometric surveys and the rapid optical follow-up of gravitational-wave events. As a key member of the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS), Torres-Flores has been instrumental in producing high-quality, 12-filter photometry, SEDs, and morphologies for millions of galaxies, with the foundational 2019 paper garnering nearly 200 citations. Their most impactful work, however, lies in multi-messenger astrophysics. As part of the TOROS Collaboration, they were directly involved in the first-ever optical detection of an electromagnetic counterpart to a gravitational-wave source (GW170817), a landmark discovery published in 2017 with over 130 citations. This work demonstrated the critical role of wide-field robotic telescopes in pinpointing the kilonova associated with a neutron star merger.
