S. Campana is a leading astrophysicist whose research focuses on the high-energy universe, particularly the prompt and afterglow emission of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). As a key figure behind the REM (Rapid Eye Mount) telescope—a fast-slewing, fully robotic facility at La Silla Observatory—Campana pioneered the simultaneous visible-to-NIR monitoring of GRB afterglows, enabling critical observations of high-redshift, Ly-α absorbed bursts.
