About

Muntaqim Mehtaz is a leading researcher in underwater robotics and computer vision, whose work is bridging critical gaps in autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) communication and environmental perception. His most impactful contribution is the creation of the Semantic Segmentation of Underwater IMagery (SUIM) dataset—the first large-scale, pixel-annotated benchmark of its kind. With over 1,500 images covering eight object categories (from fish and reefs to human divers and robots), this foundational resource has garnered 17 citations and is enabling a new generation of scene-understanding algorithms for marine robotics.
