About
Klaus Uhl is a pioneer in space robotics and autonomous systems, whose work bridges the gap between terrestrial mapping and orbital servicing. His research primarily focuses on modular satellite architectures, reconfigurable robotics, and probabilistic environment modeling. Uhl’s most influential contribution is his 2012 paper on modular robots for on-orbit satellite servicing, which has garnered 62 citations. Supported by the German Space Agency, this work challenges the traditional monolithic satellite paradigm by proposing standardized, interchangeable modules that enable in-orbit maintenance, replacement, and reconfiguration—a concept that could dramatically extend satellite lifespans and reduce space debris.
