About
Jung-Hoon Chun is a leading innovator in the field of CMOS image sensors and LiDAR technology, with a primary focus on time-of-flight (ToF) depth sensing. His research addresses critical challenges in 3D imaging, including motion artifacts, background light cancellation, and dynamic frame rate optimization. Chun’s most influential work, “A Dynamic Pseudo 4-Tap CMOS Time-of-Flight Image Sensor with Motion Artifact Suppression and Background Light Cancelling Over 120klux” (2020), has garnered 17 citations and introduces a novel indirect ToF sensor architecture that achieves high spatial resolution while suppressing motion-induced errors and operating reliably under intense ambient light. This contribution is pivotal for applications requiring robust depth sensing in challenging environments. More recently, his 2025 paper on an asynchronous 160×90 flash LiDAR sensor demonstrates a pixelwise ToF validation method with a background-light-adaptive threshold, enabling dynamic frame rates from 5 to 250 fps. This work advances flash LiDAR technology for autonomous vehicles and robotics, offering faster, more reliable 3D mapping. Chun’s innovations in ToF sensors and LiDAR systems are shaping the future of real-time depth perception and spatial awareness.
