Juan Cabral is a leading figure in multi-messenger astrophysics, best known for his pivotal role in the first-ever optical detection of a gravitational-wave source. As a key member of the TOROS (Transient Optical Robotic Observatory of the South) Collaboration, Cabral contributed to the groundbreaking 2017 observation of GW170817—the electromagnetic counterpart to a neutron star merger—a discovery that ushered in a new era of astronomy.
