Omar Lopez‐Cruz is a leading figure in multi-messenger astrophysics, specializing in the optical follow-up of gravitational wave events. As a key member of the Transient Optical Robotic Observatory of the South (TOROS) Collaboration, his work has been instrumental in bridging the gap between gravitational wave detections and their electromagnetic counterparts. His most cited paper, with 139 citations, details the TOROS Collaboration’s prompt optical follow-up of GW170817—the first gravitational-wave source ever observed with an electromagnetic counterpart. This landmark observation provided critical light-curve data, revealing significant dimming that helped characterize the kilonova.
