About
D. Vlasenko is a prominent observational astrophysicist whose research centers on time-domain astronomy, gravitational-wave follow-up observations, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), and multi-messenger astrophysics. Working extensively within the MASTER Global Robotic Network — a distributed system of automated telescopes operated by Moscow State University — Vlasenko has contributed to some of the most historically significant astronomical events of the modern era. Perhaps most notably, Vlasenko was part of the team that captured the first optical image of the neutron star merger GW170817, the landmark gravitational-wave event jointly detected by LIGO and Virgo in 2017, a paper that has garnered over 227 citations. This work exemplifies Vlasenko's expertise in rapid-response, multi-messenger observations, a skill further demonstrated through optical follow-up of the first gravitational-wave burst, GW150914 (46 citations). Vlasenko has also made significant contributions to GRB polarimetry, providing early optical polarization measurements that constrain emission mechanisms in these energetic explosions. Additional work spans high-energy neutrino source identification, microquasar outbursts, and the architecture of robotic telescope database systems. Collectively, Vlasenko's research has helped establish real-time, automated observatories as indispensable tools in the age of multi-messenger astronomy.
