Guangwei Shao is a rising innovator at the intersection of smart textiles, soft robotics, and wearable bioelectronics. His research centers on engineering responsive, high-performance fibers and actuators, with a particular focus on liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) and their integration into functional fabrics. Shao’s major contributions include the development of large-torque, fast-response electrothermal-motivated LCE twisted yarn actuators—a breakthrough that enables powerful, precise artificial muscle movements.
