About

Dong Yu Zhu is a leading researcher in the development of advanced functional polymers, with a primary focus on self-healing materials, ionic conductive elastomers, and wearable sensor technologies. His most significant contributions lie in solving the long-standing challenge of creating materials that are simultaneously highly elastic, self-healable, and recyclable. In his landmark 2023 study, Zhu fabricated a novel liquid-free ionic conductive elastomer (ICE) using an interlocking double-network structure, achieving a remarkable combination of properties ideal for wearable strain sensors. This work has already garnered 70 citations, underscoring its impact on the flexible electronics field. Earlier, Zhu pioneered a proof-of-concept approach for repeatable, millimeter-scale wound self-healing in polymers, using rapid volume expansion combined with host–guest interactions—a breakthrough for implantable and wearable biomedical materials, cited over 40 times. His work bridges fundamental polymer chemistry with practical device applications, offering sustainable, high-performance solutions for next-generation soft electronics and bio-integrated systems.
