Chengru Jiang is pioneering the next generation of soft robotics and programmable metamaterials, merging advanced additive manufacturing with intelligent structural design. His research centers on creating soft actuators and robots that are human-friendly and capable of mimicking complex animal motions, with applications spanning wearable electronics to bioinspired systems for unstructured environments. Jiang’s major contributions include developing lattice-reinforced pneumatic soft robots with programmable bending, twisting, and elongation, as well as introducing voxel design methods for grayscale DLP 3D-printed soft robots that enable precise property variation.
