About
Dr. Baibo Wu is a leading researcher in surgical robotics, specializing in continuum robot modeling, haptic devices, and endoscopic imaging. Their most impactful work addresses the fundamental challenge of accurately modeling multi-backbone continuum robots for minimally invasive surgery. Wu’s 2021 paper on a variable curvature model, which accounts for inter-segment coupling and external disturbances (59 citations), broke from the limiting constant-curvature assumptions of prior work, enabling more precise control of these dexterous manipulators. Building on this, Wu developed the CurviPicker, a continuum Delta robot for pick-and-place tasks, and advanced surgical tool tracking with a markerless 3D framework using domain randomization.
