About
Dr. Xidi Sun is a pioneering researcher in the field of flexible and wearable electronics, with a primary focus on electronic skin (e-skin) technologies. Her work addresses critical challenges in materials and device design, aiming to create skin-like electronic systems that mimic the sensory and mechanical properties of biological skin. Dr. Sun’s major contributions include the development of a flexible piezocapacitive pressure sensor featuring microsphere-array electrodes, which significantly enhances sensitivity and performance for applications in wearable medical devices, intelligent robotics, and human–machine interfaces. Her research has garnered substantial attention, with her most-cited paper, "Challenges in Materials and Devices of Electronic Skin" (2022), accumulating 51 citations. In a notable recent achievement, Dr. Sun introduced a deep learning-assisted electronic skin system capable of capturing spatiotemporal and mechanical features of social touch, enabling enhanced human–robot emotion recognition (2025, 12 citations). This work represents a significant leap forward in social robotics, allowing machines to interpret and respond to human emotions through tactile interaction. Dr. Sun’s innovative integration of advanced materials, sensor design, and artificial intelligence positions her at the forefront of next-generation wearable and interactive technologies.
