About
Shirong Jing is pioneering the development of next-generation smart materials for wearable electronics and soft robotics, with a focus on sustainability and biomimetic functionality. Their key research areas include shape-memory polymers, liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), and ionogels for adaptive human-machine interfaces. In their highly cited 2023 work on biodegradable shape-memory ionogels (42 citations), Jing introduced a green, conformal material for wearable electronics that provides real-time feedback during physical rehabilitation—a critical advance for stroke and muscle atrophy patients. Building on this, their 2024 study on solvent-templated porous LCEs (18 citations) achieved tactile sensation beyond reversible actuation, enabling artificial muscles that more closely mimic natural contraction, expansion, and rotation. This work addresses a longstanding limitation in biomimetic robotics. With a growing citation impact, Jing’s contributions stand out for integrating environmental sustainability with high-performance actuation, positioning them as a rising leader in adaptive materials for healthcare and soft robotics.
