About
Kilwon Cho is a pioneering figure in the development of next-generation electronic skin (E-skin) and soft bio-inspired sensors, with his work driving critical advances in sustainable electronics, human–robot interaction, and wearable health monitoring. His research centers on creating mechanically robust, highly sensitive, and multifunctional tactile sensors that mimic and surpass human sensory capabilities. Among his most influential contributions is a comprehensive review on biodegradable E-skin (324 citations), which addresses the urgent environmental crisis of electronic waste by charting a path toward eco-friendly, transient devices. Cho’s innovation extends to bio-inspired designs, such as a fingerpad-inspired multimodal E-skin (150 citations) capable of discriminating material properties and textures, and a soft piezoresistive pressure sensor (144 citations) that combines linear sensitivity with mechanical robustness for seamless human–robot interaction. He has also pioneered flexible pressure-sensitive transistors operating in the subthreshold regime, achieving ultra-low power consumption with high sensitivity—a crucial step for practical wearable systems. With hundreds of citations and a clear trajectory toward real-world applications in robotics, metaverse interfaces, and sustainable electronics, Kilwon Cho stands as a leader in shaping the future of intelligent, skin-like sensing technologies.
