K. Taguchi is a robotics researcher whose career spans several decades of innovative work in mobile robot locomotion, inspection systems, and human-assistive technologies. Working primarily from the early 1990s through the 2000s, Taguchi has made notable contributions to solving real-world mobility challenges that conventional wheeled robots struggle to overcome. Among Taguchi's most influential contributions is the Enhanced Wheel System (EWS), a wheel-feet hybrid mechanism designed to enable robots to navigate stairs and steps — critical obstacles in real-world environments. This work, developed across multiple publications from 1994 to 1997 and accumulating over 30 combined citations, represents a sustained effort to bridge the gap between wheeled efficiency and legged versatility.
