About

Jianping Tan is a leading researcher in flexible electronics and advanced manufacturing, specializing in the development of high-performance, multifunctional sensor systems for wearable technology and the Internet of Things (IoT). Their major contributions lie in the scalable fabrication of flexible pressure and temperature sensors using innovative techniques such as extrusion printing and laser direct writing. Notably, Tan pioneered the use of carbon nanotube-coated elastomer fibers and carbonized carboxymethylcellulose composites to create highly sensitive, flexible sensor arrays capable of simultaneous mechanical and thermal stimuli detection. Their work, including the highly cited 2019 paper on extrusion-printed pressure sensors (41 citations) and the 2021 study on laser-written multifunctional arrays (38 citations), has significantly advanced the field of human–machine interfaces, soft robotics, and structural health monitoring. With a focus on combining high flexibility, sensitivity, and scalable production, Tan’s research continues to drive the next generation of intelligent, wearable sensing platforms.
