Gabriel Zachmann is a versatile computer scientist whose research spans virtual reality simulation, haptic feedback systems, robotics, and human-computer interaction. He is perhaps best recognized for pioneering work in surgical training simulators, most notably developing HIPS — the first VR-based hip prosthesis implantation simulator — which ingeniously combines an industrial robot for high-force output with sensitive haptic feedback to replicate the demanding conditions of total hip arthroplasty.
