About
Arkaprova Ray is pioneering fully wireless, batteryless localization systems that could transform point-of-care biomedical applications. Her research centers on solving a critical challenge in gastrointestinal medicine: precisely tracking wireless capsule endoscopes (WCEs) without the constraints of batteries or wired connections. In her 2022 paper, she introduced a system capable of both localization and physiological motion detection, addressing the battery leakage and limited lifespan issues plaguing conventional devices. Building on this, her 2023 work achieved an extraordinary 50-micrometer motion detection capability—roughly half the width of a human hair—while incorporating adaptive transmitter power control to optimize energy efficiency. These contributions have direct implications for detecting cancerous tissues, targeted drug delivery, brain mapping, and robotic surgeries. With her papers already accumulating citations in the competitive field of biomedical engineering, Ray is establishing herself as a rising innovator in wireless health monitoring. Her work promises to make GI tract diagnostics safer, more reliable, and truly untethered, moving us closer to a future where medical sensing requires no batteries at all.
