Abstract

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-clay nanocomposite hydrogels with a responsive bending property as temperature-controlled manipulators are reported by Z. Liu, L.-Y. Chu, and co-workers on page 2980. The hydrogel manipulators are demonstrated for various applications including encapsulation, capture, and transportation of targeted objects. Such hydrogels provide new materials for designing “smart” soft robots in myriad fields such as manipulators, grippers, and cantilever sensors.
