About
Zhikang Ma is pushing the boundaries of robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS) by integrating advanced perception and ergonomic design. His primary research focuses on dynamic surgical scene reconstruction and the development of compact, intuitive leader devices for robotic systems. In his highly cited 2023 work, Ma introduced a novel method using neural radiance fields to achieve real-time dynamic surface reconstruction during MIS, a critical step toward enhancing visual feedback and autonomy in complex procedures. This contribution, already garnering 6 citations, addresses the challenge of operating on deformable tissues. More recently, his 2025 study tackles a major practical limitation of current MIS robots: their bulky, fixed-position leader manipulators.
