About
Zhiheng Shen is pioneering the future of autonomous navigation, developing the sensor fusion algorithms that enable self-driving cars and robots to operate reliably in the world’s most challenging environments. His research centers on the tight integration of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), and vision sensors to achieve continuous, precise state estimation. Shen’s major contributions include a groundbreaking framework for continuous positioning in urban canyons, where GPS signals often fail, and a novel system for seamless indoor-outdoor navigation using PPP/INS/UWB integration—critical for logistics robots. His work on using a moving antenna to enhance GNSS/INS performance under low-dynamic scenarios has been highly cited (22 citations), demonstrating its practical value for consumer-grade vehicle navigation. Most notably, Shen introduced a consistent localization framework based on inter-vehicle GNSS information fusion (IGIF), which leverages data from multiple robots to dramatically improve positioning accuracy and reliability. With over 90 citations across his key publications, Shen is establishing himself as a leading voice in robust, multi-sensor navigation for the next generation of intelligent autonomous systems.
