Dr. Zenan Lin is a leading innovator in the field of flexible electronics and tactile sensing, with a primary focus on advancing human-robot interaction (HRI). His research centers on developing sophisticated electronic skins (e-skins) that can replicate and even enhance the human sense of touch. Dr. Lin’s most impactful work, a 2021 study on a flexible triboelectric tactile sensor (175 citations), introduced a groundbreaking method for simultaneously recognizing both material type and surface texture—a critical capability for intelligent robotics. This sensor uses triboelectric effects to generate distinct electrical signals from different materials and textures, enabling robots to “feel” their environment with unprecedented detail. More recently, Dr. Lin has pioneered dual-modal e-skin technology (2024), which integrates tactile perception with haptic feedback.
