About
Dr. Yu Rong is a leading roboticist whose work bridges rehabilitation, surgical intervention, and bio-inspired locomotion. A central focus of his research is the development of intelligent robotic systems that enhance human physical capabilities and safety. His most impactful contribution is the design and analysis of a compatible exoskeleton rehabilitation robot system, which leverages an understanding of upper limb movement mechanisms to create more natural and effective therapy for patients. This work, published in 2023, has already garnered 10 citations, signaling its rapid influence in the field of medical robotics. In a critical effort to protect medical professionals, Dr. Rong also designed and evaluated a novel wearable vascular interventional surgical robot system. This system directly addresses the dangers of radiation exposure for interventional physicians by enabling remote-controlled surgery, while also tackling the persistent challenges of inconvenient operation and lack of force feedback. His foundational work extends to legged locomotion, where he proposed a novel method for the mechanical structural synthesis of six-legged walking robots using parallel leg mechanisms. By applying screw theory to robot type synthesis, Dr. Rong has provided a systematic framework for designing more stable and versatile walking machines, demonstrating a career-long commitment to advancing both human-assistive and autonomous robotic systems.
